Rebecca A. "Becky" Pocius On a rainy August 17th,1992, in upstate New York, Tripp Park Miss-E league lost one its most treasured alumni. Rebecca A. "Becky" Pocius died in a tragic car accident on Interstate 84.  Becky was driving alone on the highway when she lost control of her car after making a lane change and hit a guardrail.  She was 20 years old. Born in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, Becky lived in Scranton, and graduated from Scranton Central High School.   While at Central, Becky lettered in tennis, softball and basketball, and was a National Honor Society member. Becky's early softball career flourished at Tripp Park Miss-E League.  She displayed an extraordinary amount of hard work and dedication to the game.  Evidence of her passions paid off, on and off the field, as she was accepted to Harvard University, where she was an applied math concentrator, as well as a member of the Crimson softball team. As a catcher, Becky was a letter winner on the Harvard softball team in her freshman and sophomore years. Harvard Softball coach Barry Haskell, who recruited Becky to Harvard, recalled meeting her at a softball summer camp program during her junior year in high school.   "She was a coach's dream because she was all ears and was willing to work hard to do what was necessary to play at the top of her game," he said. In our hearts and minds, Becky Pocius' spirit will live on forever at Tripp Park Miss-E League ! Our primary field (‘A’) is dedicated to her memory, and is acknowledged by the scoreboard and a memorial marker behind the home team dugout. The Becky Pocius Award is given annually to the Junior League player who possesses Becky’s qualities:  hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm for the game of softball.  Please see our Awards/All-Star page for past recipients.
